Creative Collaboration

The sheer amount of opportunities for businesses to work together is truly remarkable. Collaboration is everywhere. Beginning with creative and strategic outreach, these partnerships have proven highly effective for those who seek them out.

Think about it: If you own a business or run an organization, either by yourself or with a group of board members, there are few calls better than those you get from other organizations looking to launch a well-put-together collaborative campaign or event.

Two key things can come from these partnerships:

  1. Revenue
  2. Exposure

Many other benefits can be created depending on how willing each party is to innovate and think outside the box.

Last weekend, one of our partners, NorCal Kettle Corn, had their tent and booth set up at the Rocklin Brewfest, where locals came out to enjoy a vast selection of beers from 47 breweries and 10 home brewers from all around the Sacramento and Placer region. There were also a handful of delicious food trucks available to attendees.

Moonraker cruising by the NorCal Kettle Corn booth on their way to set up for the Rocklin Brewfest last Saturday, June 1st, 2019.

At a drinking event, what do you absolutely NEED? FOOD!

Food and drinks at events are some of the most obvious opportunities for collaboration that directly help everyone involved at that event – The attendees, the vendors, and those organizing the entire event.

Although food and drink are commonly found in campaigns or at events, there are so many other ways that businesses can look to expand their audience and brand recognition through collaborative efforts.

If both organizations have done a good job with their own brands in their own markets, then there’s a good chance that they will create a mutually beneficial campaign.

Another example: Before the Rocklin Brewfest, I had no clue that Dogtopia existed. Their setup was eye-catching and memorable amongst the beer and wine booths. Dog-owners missing their beloved pups were likely to grab a flyer while they strolled by so that the next time they go out of town, they’ll know their dog is comfortable and being cared for.

There are countless ways to partner with other businesses to benefit everyone, you just have to get creative! This is easier for some than others, but any time spent on these initiatives can be invaluable.

Cosmic Ray Media is built to facilitate these efforts in the name of growth, innovation, sustainability, and community service. We come to work every day and ponder how we can cosmically align collaborative forces.

Who can YOU partner with???

Get in touch with us and we’d be happy help you establish the right connections.

BusterFest 2019

April 24, 2019

Celebrating the students of Sight Word Busters and the hard working people that serve them!

BusterFest (April 24, 2019) is a first for both Cosmic Ray Media as well as Sight Word Busters.

They currently have one event per year, a Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony, and this is our very first co-hosted event.

Together, we’ve created BusterFest to give the entire Sight Word Busters community a chance to meet others, socialize, as well as support the organization in its first year qualifying for the Big Day of Giving.

We feel incredibly lucky for the chance to help raise awareness and support for their remarkable community of volunteers, donors, students, families, teachers, and principals.

Volunteers will bring treats, host games, and dish out prizes.

BDOG 2019

The Big Day of Giving (May 2, 2019) is an online event that consists of 600 qualified non-profit organizations raising money during a 24-hour period.

Additional donations can be won by organizations by performing a variety of activities like fundraising campaigns. $100,000 total in additional donations will be rewarded by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.

There are also workshops that help participating organizations with their fundraising and marketing efforts, as well as many events leading up to BDOG that the community can get involved in.

During last year’s Big Day of Giving, nearly $7,000,000 was raised in total!

About Sight Word Busters

Sight Word Busters is in 100 classrooms at 23 schools, where qualified and trained volunteers reinforce essential literary skills with TK-2nd-grade students.

For these 2,400 children, it is not only the highlight of their day but a glimpse into their potential future, be it filled with clarity, confidence, and achievement.

They also receive invaluable one-on-one time from enthusiastic community members at a minimal expense to the school.

Pressure put on teachers is reduced and noticeable improvements are seen in the performance of children who spend time with Sight Word Busters volunteers.

In closing

As someone who feels shaped at the roots by my experience as a very young child, I truly understand the value in building a solid foundation in literacy.

My mom would force me to read for twenty minutes per day. Though I wasn’t so fond of it at the time, I’m very thankful she made me do it.

When given the opportunity to develop our reading and writing skills, we can learn to think critically and solve problems methodically.

We give ourselves the best chance of reaching our fullest potential.

We minimize the possibility of feeling discouraged and left behind, and we shield ourselves from the struggles that compound quickly resulting from a shaky foundation.

Sight Word Busters embodies this opportunity for learning and we think it’s amazing.

See you at BusterFest!

What a whirlwind…

You prepare, prepare, and prepare some more.

You cross every t and dot every i.

So many businesses fail out of the gate for every reason under the sun.

How did we get so lucky?

Don’t get me wrong, the workload has been considerable, but the fact that we’re already looking to work alongside nonprofits, breweries, wineries, barbershops, entrepreneurs, artists, bars, and restaurants is incredible to me.

All we did is let the interested parties know what we had going on. The demand for digital strategy and event design/coordination is that great.

The point is, if you’re digitally savvy in one way or another and are looking for work, hit me up.

If you’re a company that doesn’t have a digital presence as of yet, you may want to keep in mind that even the most traditional local shops and stores are implementing digital strategy to ensure they have a leg up on their competitors.

Regardless of whether you’d like to grow your business or keep it the way it is, you’ll need a digital strategy to remain relevant.

I want to give a special thanks to our strategic directors Canaan and Brandon for helping me create something beyond special. It’s only the beginning.

If you’d like to get an idea about the kinds of things we can do for your business, check out our Full-Service page or get in touch with us.

Giving up is pointless.

Fight with everything you have.

The way I see it, there are three potential directions you can take your life:

  • You can burn any and everything you touch and spiral downwards.
  • You can settle for comfort once you find a groove you like.
  • Or, you can work to grow whenever possible.

In a perfect world, everyone would want to grow, but I wouldn’t say that’s the reality we live in.

We’re far from utopia, but with the internet, an uprising may have it’s platform.

Insist that you will prevail and be relentless. If you’re alive and well, you’re in pretty good shape, so go learn some stuff and go change the world.

Obstacles are just photo ops.

You can never be too sure…

That’s really all you can be sure of.

I talk about uncertainty a lot because it’s so powerful.

It can throw you completely off course, lift you to the stars, or anything in between.

The only way it will lift you to the stars is if you’re building a figurative rocket ship.

If you dedicate your life to building something, anything of value, then you open up the potential for uncertainty to work in your favor.

I was unbelievably uncertain working to build a platform for the entirety of my business and artistic endeavors, but since I had dedicated my life to their study, I was able to take immediate action on the idea that is Cosmic Ray Media today.

If you’re actually building a rocket, maybe that means an angel investor was able to deliver the last $10,000,000 in funding for you to finally, actually launch.

Without that funding, you don’t launch, with it, you do.

You can’t be sure that you’ll get the funding, what you can do is everything in the world to give yourself the best chance.

No rocket, no funding.

Build your figurative rocket and be ready when that angel investor stumbles upon it.

POP! Oh man.

We all know Achilles from Greek mythology.

He was held by his achilles and dipped in an elixir which made him invulnerable – except for the spot where he was held.

20% of my income won’t do….

I never thought I’d be sitting at the hospital filling out disability paperwork.

A few years back when I was beginning life after college sports, sports came back with a vengeance…

Apparently, I’m not as flexible as I thought.

During a fateful last ten seconds of a recreational basketball game, I planted my foot to hustle back on defense (unnecessarily, mind you, as we were down 10 points still) and heard the infamous pop.

It felt as though a fan had run onto the court and stepped on my heel. That must have been the popping sound we all heard, right?

Little did I know, the course of my life would shift at that very moment.

When you rupture your achilles, there is no initial pain when it happens, just that loud POP. Then, over the course of the next 20 minutes, some of the most excruciating pain you’ve ever felt will ensue.

Working as a server in a restaurant, my paychecks were never representative of what I took home because they didn’t account for cash tips.

Hence, when it came time for me to live off of disability for three months so I could heal, I was only receiving around 20% of what I had previously brought home before the injury.

As you might imagine, the little financial stability I had developed began to crumble at an alarming rate.

At the time (in my early 20’s) alleviating my financial situation seemed impossible, but I did see a way I could harness the extra time to accomplish something worthwhile.

Day in and day out, I wrote song after song and listened to countless instrumentals. This would become part of the foundation that drives me today.

I learned about my own voice and what I wanted to do with my music.

My achilles heel was weak. It faltered and put me out of work for months, forcing me to reallocate my energy.

Through this process, I became mentally stronger and developed my musicianship to levels I would have only dreamt of.

I pride myself on resiliency and I feel strongly that it is absolutely crucial when navigating this life.

Whenever things don’t go your way, challenge yourself and call upon your resiliency.

Train it just like you would train any other part of you.

Business is art.

I’m a recording artist at heart, but to my surprise, putting music on hold so I could launch my business was easier than I thought.

As I manifest and visualize the possibilities for my business, the potential reach for my art grows.

For all those who are passionate about many different things, it is your job to get active enough in life to figure out how they all tie together.

That is, if you genuinely are passionate about all of them.

The way I see it, it breaks down like this: You need to do something for 10,000 hours to become a master at it, or at least something around there.

I think we can all agree that if you are truly PASSIONATE about multiple things, you are basically saying you want to spend the majority of your day doing those things.

Many skills are complimentary to one another, so it’s possible to get very comfortable doing various things throughout your day, and it can be very productive for you, but you have to love it, or you’ll go crazy.

The road to actualizing these productive days that align with your multiple interests is without a doubt, bumpy, but worth it and then some.

It feels like you’re on the verge of becoming a “jack of all trades” and then at some point, all of it clicks and you realize you can open a business with the knowledge you’ve gained.

What inspires me throughout is the chance to have massive positive impact on my society and culture in spaces I have come to love.

I’m busier than ever and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

There are countless blogs out there. Especially about business and marketing.

You shouldn’t even continue reading this.

I’ve only been in the industry for about six months… I couldn’t possibly know what I’m talking about… right?

Extremely excited! Then overwhelmed. Ecstatic! Then bummed out.

Every business owner out there has experienced this progression or something similar at one point or another.

This stems from feeling incompetent and the incessant nag that you may never be as prepared or skilled as the next guy.

Unless you’re a seasoned veteran, this feeling isn’t always easy to shake.

The industry is constantly changing and it can be tough not to get thrown off when you realize your efforts weren’t allocated in the most efficient manner.

The most unnerving part of it all is how truly justified these fears are.

At the drop of a hat, an organization can come out of the woodwork and alter the entire playing field. Forcing those in it to pick up the pieces.

While on my personal journey, I’ve adopted thought patterns that reinforce innovation and compliment uncertainty.

There is no one strategy to tackle complication.

There is, however, a common mindset that is fostered by those who seem to achieve the impossible.

When faced with a stop sign, they see a round-about, or better yet, a chance to get familiar with the unpredictable.

As this familiarity with uncertainty grows, it becomes a tool for facing unforeseen obstacles and getting off on the right foot.

Once headed in the right direction, chances we’ll come across the solution to our problem greatly increase.

The reason I blog stretches far beyond ideas encapsulated by business and marketing.

I blog to inspire a mindset and attitude that will help equip us to change the world.

Dreamforce. It sounds so cool.

If you’re in business, you’ve heard of the enormity of an event that is Dreamforce.

Digital professionals gather in San Fransisco to network with nearly 200,000 others, learn from 2,000+ info sessions, and have a blast for 3 days.

Everyone there is winning.

The more I learn about business, the more I see the correlation between event awesomeness and a company’s success.

The organizations that are touching the community in the most meaningful ways are hosting events.

Whether it be a small awareness event for a non-profIt, a product launch party, or a conglomerate like Dreamforce, a carefully planned for and positioned event can literally benefit everyone involved.

Business events are becoming a lot like festivals, and I think it’s remarkable. Even if you’re forced to work on a smaller scale, you can achieve great things with very little.

Get better at negotiating, leverage others’ expertise, and I’m confident you can find a way to integrate event culture into your company.

Think outside the box.

We’ve all heard of the infamous Fyre Festival and it’s blasphemous doings.

Still, you have to admit, Billy understood one hard truth about people:

We don’t ask many questions if we admire and/or trust the person selling us something.

The trust part makes total sense. That’s what trust is. Who has time to be skeptical 24 hours a day?

All we can do is stay aware and hope that we aren’t betrayed by those we trust.

What fascinates me the most, is that so many high-stakes business relationships emerge out of a similar climate.

Obviously, the ones that maintain their quality are what we want.

Since even our brightest get fooled sometimes, how can we harness our understanding of this phenomenon to do good for the world?

Create something useful. Something that the need will only grow for in the future.

Create your own business!

Once you have a valuable service or product based around your passion, skillset, and desired clients, get it in the hands of influencers in your local market.

Pair this strategy with other marketing efforts and watch what happens.

It’s been proven time and time again that it’s who you know, not what.
